Where is the school located?
Cinema Makeup School is located in the historic Wiltern Theater Building at 3780 Wilshire Boulevard in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles. The school is convenient to the L.A. Metro Purple Line subway and multiple bus lines and is just a short distance from Downtown L.A., Hollywood, major shopping malls and entertainment destinations.
Who can enroll?
Do I need past makeup/art experience?
No. We accept students of all experience levels and all of our core classes teach everything starting from the basics. That said, past artistic experience or education can be a great asset to a makeup artist. For more experienced arists, we offer tailored advisement and a flexible classroom environment that will allow you to learn and grow at your own pace.
How long are classes?

Can I work while attending CMS?
If you’re attending our daytime programs, you will be in class from 9a-4p on weekdays. That said, you can certainly use your free time to work. In fact, we give all students full access to our job board and updates and encourage our students to pursue makeup work on the weekends to network gain real world experience.
What will CMS do for me after I graduate?
CMS is committed to a policy of “lifetime mentoring.” Graduates are welcome to use CMS facilities (space permitting) to work on personal projects, and they are encouraged to continue meeting with our advisors. Graduates can also apply to work with the school in various capacities; from interning in the CMS offices and labs to creating new makeup work for conventions and trade shows.
Who are CMS’s teachers?
CMS instructors are working professionals from the film, entertainment and beauty industries. Many are award winners in their fields; CMS regularly hosts Emmy- and even Oscar-winning instructors, and beauty artists whose work has appeared in major fashion magazines and graced the faces of A-list celebrities. Is being a makeup artist really a viable career?
Yes. Thousands of people make their livings as makeup artists in one form or another. This doesn’t mean it’s easy, but few worthwhile careers are. As with any other career path, you get out what you put in. Hard work, determination, a healthy attitude towards both failure and success, reasonable expectations, passion and a bit of luck will get you a long way in any field.
Does CMS offer job placement?
CMS does not offer or guarantee job placement. We provide resources and support to students and graduates to make the search for work easier, but we do not place candidates.
Does CMS accept FAFSA/Pell Grants/Other government student aid?
CMS does not accept FAFSA or other government financing. We do accept certain provisions of the G.I. Bill. For private financing and payment options, CLICK HERE.
Is CMS an accredited institution?
We choose not to pursue accreditation as it would restrict, among other things, our ability to hire working professional makeup artists as instructors and our ability to constantly update our curriculum.
How long has the school been in operation?
CMS celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2013. The school has been in continuous operation since 1993, making it one of the most venerable makeup training institutions in the world.
