Leonard Engelman


Leonard Engelman, Cinema Makeup School’s Director of Education, is the very first Makeup Branch Governor for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science Board of Governors.  He was the Business Representative for the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Guild, Local 706, for three years, and served for many years as an Executive Board Member. He has received several nominations and two awards from the Hollywood Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Guild and has been nominated for two Emmys.

Leonard is personally in charge of updating the school’s syllabus to the most current and relevant techniques and materials.  Leonard also hand-picks CMS’ instructors, carefully selecting working makeup artists who are internationally recognized for their artistry and experience.

Leonard has worked with some of the most legendary talents in the entertainment industry -  from the beauty of Cher in “Moonstruck” to Cher and Michelle Pfeiffer in “Witches of Eastwick”, Meg Ryan in ”Sleepless in Seattle”, Julie Andres in “Princess Diaries”, and to the rugged Val Kilmer in “Heat”, Sylvester Stallone in “Rambo” and “Rocky IV” and Chris O’Donnell in “Batman and Robin”.  He has worked with Alfred Hitchcock on “Topaz”, Rod Serling and John Chambers on “Night Gallery” series and  on “The Munsters” series.
