Welcome to Cinema Makeup School's E-Newsletter,
which is created to keep you informed of what's going on at Cinema
Makeup School. It features news about our students, alumni and esteemed
instructors.
Graduates Work:
Nikki Greene Master Makeup graduate has recently
shot a film called “Victim.” She also worked with a
band called “The Blood Arm” shooting their video “Angela”.
Their album is #1 in England and France and will be aired on MTV
Europe and MTV 2 in the U.S. Nikki and Heather O’Boyle
Master Makeup Graduate did a Old Age Elvis Makeup for K-EARTH 101
Radio Station. Heather also worked on the film “Grave Digger”,
student film “Backroads”, and “Jack”
Cuyler Eaton Master Makeup Graduate has been working
with Photographer Costas Viontas for World Video shooting an Album
Cover and Music Video for Maria Shiraz who recently signed with
Warner Bros.
Sarah (Tarling) Matzke has been working with a
professional photographer doing injury simulation for a new nationally
published DVD-Rom series of paramedics textbooks, as well as a feature
length zombie movie called "2" that will begin production

Along with a short film "Dunwich" which, was well received
at the H.P.Lovecraft Film Festival in October, but they have gone
back in to do a re-edit with additional score. "Dunwich"
will have a local premiere in March.
Graduate Heather Coleman recently did makeup for
“Mouse Trap” a Doritos’s super bowl commercial
contest and made it into the top 5.
Iris Sutalo Master Makeup Graduate was Department
head for a film called “Tales From the Dead”. The film
required Beauty, Blood Effects, Old age Makeup and Gelatin appliances.
She had help from two other graduates Liz Mendoza
and Asami Matsukawa.

April Metcalf Master Makeup Graduate did a pilot
“Small Talker” and a film called “Smashed Head”,
April also did a partial appliance for John Kapelos (Breakfast Club)

Jamie Kim worked with Will Hess on an interview
with Brett Ratner (director of X-Men, Rush Hour 1-3, etc.). This
was for a documentary Will is working on about Comic Book legend
Stan Lee (creator of Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic Four, the Punisher,
Ghostrider, etc.)
Tara Lang was working on a short film “Unconditional”
starring Hudson Leick (CSI, Xena, 7th Heaven) and Daniel Goldman,
as well as a training video for International Equestrian Federation,
and most recently a photo shoot with Puppet the Psycho Dwarf.
Corinne Dutra had wrapped “Super Croc”
and Asylum Film that will be released to Blockbuster this April
or May. Along with a music video for an up and coming artist “Western
States Motel”.
Instructor Work/Introductions:
Instructor Ralis Kahn is currently working for
“Haunt X the Xtreme Halloween Expo”. On Saturday February
17th from 12 pm-1 pm he will be doing “Makeup To Die For”
demonstration followed by “Molding and Casting Magic”
Sunday February 18th 11 am-12 pm. The expo will be taking place
at the LAX Hilton.
Instructor Greg McDougall currently worked on
features such as “Creep Show3”and “War of the
Worlds” with Tom Cruise, as well as show like MTV’s
Parental Control.
We have brought in a new instructor and long time CMS graduate
Casey Love, very talented painter and sculptor
who has worked with special fx labs such as ADI (AVP 2) and Tatopoulos
Studios (Messanger, Dead Girl, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Trick
or Treat). Along with many other personal projects such as “Illiadan”
with Steve Wang, Monsters in Motion’s “Pans Labyrinth”
figures, and a current Blizzard project.
Gayla Baseheart is back teaching in our Beauty/High
Fashion courses. Gayla has over 16 years in the industry and has
worked with actors like Steve Buscemi, Martin Sheen, John Cusack
and Dave Navarro. As well as working with Network stations such
as ESPN, Discovery Channel, Sci-Fi, and HBO.
We would like to welcome Davis Fandino a classically
trained sculptor from Italy to Cinema Makeup School. Davis has over
Ten years experience working in fine art and commercial sculpture
studios and has worked on films such as Spiderman, Alien VS Predator,
Superman (2006), The Island, and Scary Movie 3.
New Classes/Seminar/School Info:
Cinema Makeup School will now be offering a new course. “Digital
FX Make-up Design” with instructor Jordu
Schell. We are the first Makeup School to incorporate this
revolutionary process into our curriculum. Jordu has worked on projects
such as Edward Scissor Hands, Men in Black, Galaxy Quest, Predator
II, The X-Files Movie, and Planet of the Apes. The course will prepare
students for their career as a professional character and creative
creature designer for makeup. Specializations include retouching
and retooling or existing photographs and modifying a person’s
likeness to match ideas and designs specified by production utilizing
computer applications and digital process. The Class will be held
in the evenings Mon-Fri 6:00 pm to 10 pm. As a introduction to the
class, Jordu will also be holding a 3 hour seminar on February 20th
from 6-9 pm at CMS. The class has limited seating, so contact us
immediately if you would like to attend. There is a $20 general
admission fee and please be sure to RSVP to info@cinemamakeup.com.

We will also be starting a new night course for anyone interested
in taking our Character class, which will be starting April 9th.
The class will be held Mon-Fri 6 pm to 10 pm, for a totally of 10
and a half weeks.
We are also happy to announce a wonderful opportunity for our graduate
students! We will be holding an after school workshop, free of charge,
with Leonard Engelman. Leonard is a legendary icon
of Hollywood who was recently awarded Branch Govenor of makeup for
the Academy Awards, representing the best combination of experience,
talent and teaching ability. He has worked on such films as Sleepless
in Seattle, Mermaids, Ghostbusters, and Rocky IV, as well as working
with many world-famous actors. We are very excited to provide our
graduates with this opportunity to ask Leonard Questions about the
Industry. The IMATS(International Makeup Artists Trade Show)is also
coming soon and Leonard has been a judge for the competition in
the past, what better way to prepare then from a past judge himself!
We will be holding the workshops from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on the
following dates: February 22, March 1, March 8, March 15.
Cinema Makeup School graduates have been invited to attend the
4th Annual Oscar-Nominated Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist
Symposium, which is being held on February 24th. It is
located at 1313 Vine St. Academy of Motion Picture’s Pickford
Center in Hollywood (at Fountain, between Sunset and Santa Monica)
from 2 pm to 4 pm. The event will honor and celebrate the makeup
artist and hair stylist nominees for Best Achievement in Makeup
2006. Nominees include Aldo Signoretti and Vittorio Sodano for Apocalypto,
Kazuhiro Tsjui and Bill Corso for Click, along with David Marti
and Montse Ribe for Pan’s Labyrinth. The Symposium will include
the film clips for “Bake Off” and an opportunity to
discuss with the panel their great achievements honored with nominations.
Arrive early to view the displays. Admission is free. Reservations
