Welcome to Cinema Makeup School's E-Newsletter which is created to keep you informed of what's going on at Cinema Makeup School. It features news about our students, alumni and instructors.

Cinema Makeup School will be at Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors April 17-19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, stop by and see us at booth 404! We will also be appearing at Monsterpalooza from May 29th to the 31st in Burbank, CA!

Graduate Work

Master graduate Danae Swanagon has been keeping busy after her move to San Francisco in August.  She has worked on 5 thesis films with students from the Academy of Art and San Francisco State University, as well as working directly for the Academy of Art with one of their classes to produce a web series called "Chance Encounters".  She has been working with the ongoing web series "Exit Stage Left" for Director Sinohui Hinojosa that can be viewed at www.lowrytheatercompany.com and the San Francisco/Oakland based band Grand Lake on their music video "Nevermint" as well as their album cover and back cover art.

Tara Lang worked as the Makeup Department Head on "Wolvesbayne" in Lafayette, Louisiana, graduate Corinne Dutra came with to focus on the blood effects.  The film starred Jeremy London, Christy Romano, Yancy Butler, and Mark Dacascos.  Tara was Key Makeup on "The Dunwich Horror" also filmed in Lafayette, Louisiana, which is a remake of the original movie based on H.P. Lovecraft's story, starring Dean Stockwell and Jeffery Combs. She also created the special effects and blood FX for the short featurettes called "Tales from Camp Blood" which will be placed on the rerelease of the original Friday the 13th DVD's.  On the movie "To the Wall", Tara worked as the makeup artist for singer/songwriter Rebecca St. James and made an appearance on, as well as doing the makeup for, the promo for Showtime's upcoming new series, "Lock and Load".

Graduate Corinne Dutra is now the co-owner of the makeup and effects studio Synapse FX.   They did the Special FX for the movie "The Telling" being produced by Bridget Marquardt also starring her and Holly Madison, both star in the reality TV show "The Girls Next Door". Corinne was the Special Makeup Effects Supervisor. "Warwolves", a werewolf movie that Synapse FX created all of the makeup effects for, will be airing on the Sci-Fi channel Sunday, March 8th at 9 p.m.

December 2008 Master graduate Allison Hamilton has been working as a make-up artist and hair stylist to CBS Amazing Race personalities Kynt and Vyxsin.  When Kynt and Vyxsin attend celebrity parties or other events with media coverage Allison is there to help them look their best.

Graduates Liz Mendoza, Tomo Hayashi and Scott Mueller all worked for Larry Bones of Boneyard FX on “Grinchmas” at Universal Studios during the month of December. They applied prosthetics to create some of the 150 “Who’s” that roamed the lot.

May 2008 graduate Lesley Becerra is currently working full time at a shop in Van Nuys called Creative Character Engineering. In her time there she has worked alongside people from shops like Legacy (Stan Winston's new shop), Quantum and Optic Nerve on TV shows like Grey's Anatomy, ER, Dexter and Fringe. They created the slugs and the porcuman creature for Fringe and Lesley got to go on the set of Dexter to do an arm cast of lead actor Michael C. Hall.

Graduate Gina Osborne Morris has been working diligently in the Dallas fashion & beauty district, working with many local photographers and models on different photo shoots and fashion shows. She has also been working with an exotic car company that was recently featured on a local Dallas show called Young Street; they rent out the cars for photo shoots and provide a photographer and Gina as the hair and makeup artist. Gina works with Roy Photography on shoots with various models from different agencies, she plans to contact more modeling agencies who work closely with makeup artists and photographers in her area.

Master graduates Simpat Beshirian and Kayla Barry created an Abraham Lincoln makeup for LP3 Pictures. Simpat worked on a commercial for TAPOUT that will be airing on Spike TV during UFC fights as well as a short for ZMAN Productions where he utilized a bald cap, multiple appliances and laid hair.
Graduates Miriam Writer and Shaun Martin are both working as interns at S.O.T.A FX in Van Nuys, and graduate Jacqueline Young has interned at A.D.I.

Renee Saia worked at the 2008 BlizzCon doing airbrush makeup, BlizzCon is a celebration of the Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo franchises and the communities that surround them. Renee also worked on the 2009 Rose Parade, beautifying some of the 28 dancers of the Honda Float.

Eiko Ono has been working steadily since her 2006 graduation. Her projects include film and music video shoots as well as ongoing work doing hair and makeup for head shot sessions.

Graduate Lane Edmonson is back in Houston, TX; she was the Key Makeup Artist for the JPages Hair Magazine for Franklin Beauty School and she recently started freelancing for the MAC Pro Team.

Instructor Work

Beauty and High Fashion Instructor Mireille Bertrand, created and applied the makeup for the runway at the ISSE hair show in Long Beach with the assistance of current students and graduates; Mandy Villarreal, Heather Geyer, Keiko Matsumoto, Emily Nakasone, Brooks Belhumeur, Sunghee Park and Lindsey Lowe.

On February 26th Mireille will be using the talents of her former students during a fashion show held at the J Lounge in downtown Los Angeles, Mandy Villarreal, Sunghee Park, Heather Geyer, Keiko Matsumoto and Brooks Belhumeur will be assisting with the makeup and Elisabeth Krebs, Krysten Clark, Taryn Ogilvie and Gabby Gomez will be assisting with hair styling.  

Graduate Emily Nakasone has been assisting Mireille on multiple events including the Vivienne Westwood designer showcase and trunk show and a photo shoot for NAHA (North American Hairstyling Awards).

Graduate Lauren Favorule was the makeup artist for photographer Candice Cunningham for a photo shoot to pay homage to the victims of the Montecito, CA fires. Photos were released on the international website www.trashthedress.com
