CMS News:

Cinema Makeup School was proud to welcome Academy Award winner Christien Tinsley of “Tinsley Transfers”, and Kazuhiro Tsuji, Academy Award nominee, as they joined us to celebrate our 15 year Anniversary on Saturday, April 19th, 2008.  Christien demonstrated his Tinsley Transfers for the first time publicly, as well as creating a beautiful “beaten up” silicone/transfer makeup.  Kazu brought in the molds and prosthetics from “Norbit”, and demonstrated breakaway core design and showed behind the scene, exclusive images from the design and makeup process from the film.

Digital FX Make-up Instructor Tim Turner’s Goulish Gallery was featured in the March issue of “Gothic Beauty Magazine”, where he discusses his amazing transformative processes, and discusses his instruction at CMS. The magazine is available at Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, and Borders.

Congratulations to High Fashion instructor Mireille Bertrand on her recent promotion at Estee Lauder! Mireille is now the Guest Celebrity Artist for the Top Tier Makeup Artistry Team and will be working with their global artist Rick Di Cecca. Mireille is also the key makeup artist for Esuchen hair care, and their upcoming skin care and makeup line. 

Instructor and Graduate Work:

Master Graduate Renee Saia created the masterful makeup for the cover of the new album “The Reaper Behind Me,” by Blood, a popular Japanese band.

Graduate Stephanie Jennings has been busy working with theatre productions in Tennessee and Mississippi. In November she designed makeup for the Mississippi Opera’s production of “La Boheme”.   In February, she worked on a production of “Vagina Monologues” at the Theater Works in Memphis.  Stephanie recently completed a production of “Macbeth” and is now working on “La Cenerentola” (Cinderella) at the Opera Memphis. 

High Fashion graduate Justine Serebrin participated in the CREATE: FIXATE Art Show in Los Angeles.  Justine performed incredible live body painting, and the show was prominently featured in the LA Weekly newspaper. 

Master Graduate Kalyani Thiruchelvam has been keeping busy on the east coast with 2 editorials featuring her work in the New York Post Fashion section as well as a Clairol Advertisement in Essence Magazine and an ad for the Ford Escalade Hybrid.

Master Graduates Liz Mendoza (Key Makeup/Special Makeup Effects), Gage Hubbard (Assistant Special Makeup Effects), and Charles Young (Intern) are working on the feature film “Chicago Pulaski Jones.”   Liz designed looks involving aging, injuries, and laying hair. The film is directed by Cedric the Entertainer and stars Kel Mitchell and Tommy Davidson.

Graduate Lymari Millot created a full-body makeup for a music video in Texas,  and also utilized airbrushing for looks for a Mexican television show.  In February, she created makeup looks for Llewelyn Films in Los Angeles; specific scenes even called for a religious re-enactment, making the actors up to signify that they were “tortured souls in hell.”

Graduate Jessica Frieling has also had a busy few months, applying makeup for the MTV Shows “Exiled” and “My Super  Sweet  16”. She continued in that vein by working on several music videos, including a video for the band Defy Tomorrow, Marissa Michelle’s “Just So Able” (which is featured on mtvoverdrive.com), and a video for Jody Gnant, which will see a theatrical release on 6000 screens.

April Metcalf, Master graduate, is working as the Prosthetics Makeup Artist with Michael Westmore on the production of “Mask, The Musical” at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Instructor Greg McDougal (Key Makeup Artist), along with graduates Kayla Barry (Key Hairstylist, asst. Makeup) and  Andy Chavez (assistant) just finished shooting  on location in Donner Pass and Lake Tahoe on “The Forlorn”, a period film focusing on the 1846 tragedy of the Donner Party, starring Crispin Glover.

Willy Valenzuela and Troy Wheeler, both master graduates, created appliances for a World of War Craft movie teaser (Undead Necromancer) under the direction of CMS Director of Admissions and Special FX Makeup Artist Lee Joyner.

Master graduate Graham Schofield, with master students Jessy D’Aprile and Marta Heitz  working as assistants,  created the title creature for the film “Little Fu*ker”.

Instructor Ralis Kahn and Jordu Schell are currently creating new masks for the band Slipknot, along with assistance by CMS graduates.
