CMS will be at the International Makeup Artist Tradeshow in Pasadena June 20 &21, we will be located at booth 215, be sure to stop by and see us! We will also be appearing at Monsterpalooza from May 29th to the 31st in Burbank, CA!

Cinema Makeup School had a booth at Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors; graduates Tomo Hayashi, Miyo Nakamura and Robert Lindsay created a multi-piece zombie Nosferatu for the costume competition, check out the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33cobL3DfHo

CMS Director of Education Leonard Engelman will be hosting a special Tribute to Dick Smith.  The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present “A Tribute to Dick Smith: The Godfather of Special Makeup Effects,” on Wednesday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Six-time Oscar-winning makeup artist Rick Baker will host the evening, which will be attended by Smith himself and will feature a panel discussion including writer-director Guillermo del Toro, actor Hal Holbrook and makeup artists Greg Cannom, Kazuhiro Tsuji and Andrew Clement, among others.  Tickets for “A Tribute to Dick Smith” are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. They may be purchased beginning May 26 online at www.oscars.org, in person at the Academy box office or by mail. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. All seating is unreserved. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.

Instructor Work

CMS Director of Education Leonard Engelman was featured on the Will Work for Food show on the Food Network; the segment was all about food used for horror makeup and can be viewed here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbYUMdezUTA

Instructor Greg McDougall recently completed a movie trailer for the comic book inspired zombie tale “The Undertakers”. The trailer was shot in 2 days in 103˚ heat, Greg, with the help of graduate Kayla Barry, created comic-like zombies using wet foam build-up & foam latex face appliances

Graduate Work

Robert Lindsay took on the Key Makeup Position for the Feature Film "The Millenium Bug". The Special Effects-laden movie is produced by James and Kenneth Cran from the Squire Film Shoppe. He is assisted by former Graduates Steve Weber, Bridget Clarke, Lea Weird and Marissa Williams. The Production is estimated to last until the end of June.  Robert was featured on an episode of "U.F.O Hunters” -The Gray Conspiracy- for the History Channel.  He did a clay reconstruction of the famous "Starchild skull".

Miyo Nakamura and Tomo Hayashi are working on a new short film involving creature tentacle designs by Miyo, similar to the style portrayed in the movie Tremors.  Tomo created the mold and will be casting Miyo’s detailed creature tentacles.

Jackie Murillo has been interning over at A.D.I. (Amalgamated Dynamics Incorporated), the fx lab that brought you Aliens vs. Predators and Starship Troopers, creating a secret project to be unveiled at Monsterpalooza later this month!

Gage Hubbard has had a busy year so far, finishing working on films such as Demonic Toys 2 and The Killer Eye 2 (both filmed in Italy), Ashley’s Ashes, Edges of Darkness and Wildcat Road (in production now).

Lindsey Summerfelt just started at Quantum FX seaming costumes for the movie “TRON 2”. She is also working on a movie by Gris Grimly of Mad Creator Productions called "The Wounded Embark of the Lovesick Mind." 

Tracy Raffelson has been busy assisting Natalie MacGowan-Spencer on many of her projects including; music videos for Lil Wayne, The Sugar Hill Gang and Marilyn Manson,  commercials for Puma, Wendy’s, Ambien and Fosters Farm as well as the promos for the MTV Movie Awards featuring Jack Black, Michael Cera, Andy Samberg, Will Arnett, Bill Hader and Rashida Jones.

Laura Lieffring has been busy since her March 2009 graduation, working on Photo shoots, short films, fashion shows, music videos, and commercials. A recent photo shoot required the models to look like elves, a short film called "No Control" involved sculpting cabo wounds on the actors forehead along with many other cuts and bruises and blood throughout the film as well as natural beauty makeup and a music video for the artist Bijou ("Two Bottles") required Laura to create a sleeve of tattoos and one across the chest on one of the characters in the video, she  was on a crew with 5 other amazing makeup artists all from CMS as well.

Lindsey Rivera www.lindseyrivera.com finished working as the assistant on CiCi's Pizza's new promotional commercial that aired nationally; she applied full makeup on 5 out of the 8 actors. Lindsey recently completed a shoot for the cover and spread in Humor Mill Magazine with comedian Kevin Hart, and another cover and spread for Military Spouse Magazine that is out on newsstands in May as well as working on a photo submission shoot for Flaunt Magazine. 

Ida Fiorella was the makeup artist for the feature film “Reach” and collaborated with Star Chat Magazine as the makeup artist for their celebrity interviews.

Simpat Beshirian created a 5 piece prosthetic makeup for a comedy sketch called "Susan Boyles First Kiss" for Stretch Productions which can be viewed on www.thenetfeed.com, and a vampire/demon makeup for a movie trailer for the Defy Agency.

Erica Stone was one of two makeup artists on a music video for the song "Demonstration" by artists Taxx and Reno Red.

Cuyler Eaton is currently the makeup and hair artist for the host of REALTVFILMS, Sheri Nandel.

Samantha Ward has been working with music video director Robby Starbuck, and has completed nine music videos for him so far, one video for the cover song "Toxic" by A Static Lullaby premiered on MTV2.
Samantha has also been hired as Key Makeup on multiple short films.
