Welcome to Cinema Makeup School's E-Newsletter, which is created to keep you informed of what's going on at Cinema Makeup School. It features news about our students, alumni and esteemed instructors.

We would like to welcome to our staff:

Rob Burman has come on board as a teacher for our Prosthetics class. Having a father like Tom Burman and his brother Barney has certainly given Rob an incredible career and is now bringing that lifetime of talent and skill to us and our students. He has worked on films such as: “The Fly”, “The Thing”, “Terminator 2”, and “Ghostbusters”. He is one of Hollywood's beloved special effects artists and an idol to a new generation of up and coming makeup artists and we are excited to have him as part of the Cinema Makeup School family.

Emmy Award winner Lynda Gurasich brings us her special talents and years of experience working in the film industry in teaching Hair Design. She has worked with such A-Lister's as Warren Beatty, Angelica Huston and Bruce Willis, as well as having worked on "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" as well as "Jurassic Park", “Exorcist 2” and "The Wedding Planner".

Jim Kagel has recently joined CMS to instruct the sculpting elements of CMS' Special Makeup Effects classes. Jim's industry credibility, legendary talent and experience are quite a benefit to us and our students here at CMS. He has created legendary creatures for films such as: “Altered States”, “The Thing”, “The Abyss”, “Child’s Play”, “Independence Day”, and “300”. We are very excited to have him here here at CMS!

Cinema Makeup School also welcomes Michael Broom, an accomplished creature and character designer as well as an experienced special effects artist, has joined the teaching roster for our Digital FX Makeup class and our Special Makeup Effects class. His credits include “Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem”, “The Mist”, and” The Incredible Hulk”.

CMS has teamed up with Burbank Adult School, and is now offering a night class from the BAS campus taught by CMS graduate Nikki Greene. She has worked on films including: “The Apocalypse”, “Bulletface”, and “Victim”.

Seminar Instructor Ed French recently received an Emmy for prosthetic makeup on Fox Network's "House" series. Congratulations to Ed from all of us here at Cinema Makeup School!

Instructor Ralis Kahn has been busy traveling for work from LA to India. His schedule has included: “Resident Evil 3 Extinction”, makeup for the book Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx, and the album cover for Lizzy Borden’s new album “Appointment with Death”. Graduates Erin Draney and Emily Kravitz joined in on that project, helping with makeup, art and modeling, with graduate Armando Ramirez, who helped build 11 foot wings for the cover. While in India Ralis worked on a feature film with legendary makeup artist Michael Westmore. Ralis has recently returned ack to India to finish filming and is now working on the video game “Metal Beast 4” as well as the films “Feast 2 and 3” back to back.

Greg McDougall, who teaches our Prosthetics and Special Effects Makeup classes, fabricated a creature suit for the recent film "Spike", with original character design created by Jordu Schell. Graduate and IMATS 2007 Character Award winner Kayla Barry worked along side Greg on this project.

Graduates Work:

Master graduate Heather O'Boyle is creating the new cover for the "Saw" box series coming out on DVD.

Johnny Saiko, mold making guru at CMS, worked with graduates Kayla Barry and Andy Chavez on a comedy film in which they created a full chest appliance. Johnny also hired graduate Sarah Settles to work as a suit wrangler on Steve Wang's production of “Kamen Rider”.

Amy Strozzi is busy creating makeup for internationally recognized magazines and print ads. Her work can be seen in publications such as In Style, Jane and BPM, as well as ads for companies as diverse as Nike, Converse, Miller and the CW! She is also the Creative Makeup Advisor for the 2nd year on Fox network's "So You Think You Can Dance" as well as being the personal makeup artist for the host of UK Idol!

Master graduate Tara Lang has teamed up with Lorenzo Lamas to create makeup for “30,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, as well as Mark Dacascos on “I am Omega”.

Renee Saia just finished applying beautiful makeup for a fashion layout with photographer Marc Goldstein as well as finishing up a 2008 calender for Amore Clothing. Renee and graduate Reyna Garcia worked together on a short film for Sid Roth's "It's Supernatural". Renee was also featured on E! Channel's "12 Sexiest Jobs" performing bodypainting and airbrushing.

Pixie Acia has joined Kat Von D as part of the team on "LA Ink" featured on The Learning Channel. She created makeup for a Velvet Revolver video and is currently working with photographer Chris Cuffaro.

Orso Balla is currently working on the set of “Hellboy 2” with Bart Mixon and Spectral Motion FX (“Hellboy 1”, “Men in Black”, “Robocop”, “The Terminator”). She started working on the project as a puppeteer and has since moved up to assisting and applying prosthetics on multiple characters.

Teresa Huang is working with a photographer creating an eleven page editorial and cover for 13 Minutes magazine, including four models and eleven styles.

Kavita Koparkar is living in India and has opened her own Hair & Makeup Studio. She has been working with advertising and editorial companies, fashion shows and has worked on many Indian films.

Graduate Romina Kalsi moved back to Switzerland and has been working consistently since returning. She worked on multiple short films, fashion shows and photo shoots, and through these jobs was picked by Italian actress Chiara Pavoni to be her personal makeup artist, while working directly for various productions companies in Italy.

Master Makeup graduate Kristin Liu is now living in Hong Kong and working as a makeup artist for the largest television production company in HK, Television Broadcasts Limited.

Current students at Cinema Makeup School are excited to be involved with Fashion Week here in LA where they have been assisting with makeup, hair, dressing and set up of the events. They have been involved in shows for designers such as: Jeffrey Sebelia (Project Runway winner), Louis Verdad, Eduardo Lucero & the Bohemian Society, Amanda Shi for Avita, Bahar Shapar and Gary Harvey from London, J’aime Pressley, Deborah Lindquist and Yana K.
