The Rick Baker Legends of Creature Design Scholarship (“Rick Baker Scholarship”) is an annual award presented by Cinema Makeup School and Rick Baker celebrating the career and art of Rick Baker. This Scholarship has been introduced to identify promising creature and concept artists who are interested in studying makeup and effects at the highest level.
Rick Baker, the scholarship sponsor and head of its selection process, is a 7-time Oscar-winning makeup and effects artist and among the most highly-respected makeup artists of all time.
The Rick Baker Scholarship will consist of a $10,000 scholarship award to be applied towards any Cinema Makeup School program at its Los Angeles campus, and will be awarded to one person based on a review of creature art submissions. The selected recipient of the 2017 Scholarship will be officially notified and confirmed by electronic mail. The winner will be announced through the online resources of Cinema Makeup School.
To Apply: Rick Baker Scholarship applications open October 5, 2016 and may be submitted by anyone with a high school diploma or its equivalent, and who will be eligible to enroll at the time of their first class (SEE BELOW). The finalists and winner will be personally selected by Mr. Baker.

Complete applications must be received no later than September 29, 2017, at Noon, Pacific Standard Time, and may be received electronically via the linked form, or by regular mail to Cinema Makeup School, 3780 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 202, Los Angeles, CA 90010.
The winner will be chosen based upon a qualitative review of submitted materials by Mr. Baker. All decisions Mr. Baker are final.
Each applicant must meet the enrollment pre-requisites for Cinema Makeup School. Enrollment requirements: each individual must be over the age of 18 by the time they begin classes, and must have proof of high school completion or its equivalent. The Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. residents and to international students who must meet the requirement of qualification for an M-1 student visa under the regulations of the U.S. Department of States. The winner must be able to provide confirmation of requirements within 30 days of the announcement as the winner, or the Scholarship will go to the runner-up. The Scholarship can be used only at the Los Angeles campus. The recipient must start classes within 12 months after the date of the scholarship award. The award may be used towards tuition for any Class or Program at Cinema Makeup School – up to $10,000 USD. The award is non-transferrable and there is no cash award or cash value for unused funds. Neither Cinema Makeup School nor Rick Baker are responsible for applications not received. The decision of the panel and of Mr. Baker is final. Only the winner will be notified.
All applications and accompanying portfolios, images, documents and other materials will become property of Cinema Makeup School. Applications and accompanying portfolios, images, documents and other matter will not be returned to the applicants. The decision of the judges shall be final. By applying for the Scholarship, each applicant grants Cinema Makeup School the right to use their names and likenesses for publicity purposes relating to the Scholarship.
