Hollywood Master Workshops

This new series of special two-day seminars features award-winning makeup artists from all segments of the business teaching some of the specific, high-level practical skills that made them famous. These workshops feature intimate class sizes, plenty of hands-on work, and the chance to learn advanced practical skills from some of the biggest names in makeup. We will be adding new workshops throughout the year, but space is limited.

PAST WORKSHOPS

Head to Toe Glam w/ Melanie Mills

Emmy winner Melanie Mills, known for her award-winning work on Dancing with the Stars, and The Real daytime talk show will be teaching a 2-day course on “Lashes to Legs” full body makeup application, how to build a personal brand, and Glamour Makeup on Women of Color. Melanie is an expert on beauty makeup and has mastered the art of setting herself apart in this industry! Apply today to learn how to go from bland to GLAM!.

Students should have previous professional makeup experience and/or have taken professional-level makeup courses. Materials needed for the course will be announced soon. CMS will arrange a model for each participant.

Class dates: July 16-17, 9am to 4pm
Workshop tuition: $500 (including $100 deposit)

Advanced Prosthetic Application and Blood Plumbing w/ Mike Mekash

Emmy winner Mike Mekash, known for his award-winning work on American Horror Story will be teaching a 2-day course on prosthetic application and painting with an emphasis on practical blood effects. Mike is the blood and gore master behind the effects on AHS, and this workshop will give you an inside look at his bag of tricks.

Students should have previous professional makeup experience and/or have taken professional-level makeup courses. Students will also be asked to bring their own makeup kits, provide a hairpiece and must provide their own models. CMS can help arrange a paid model if no other options are available.

Class dates: June 11-12, 9am to 4pm
Workshop tuition: $500 (including $100 deposit)
Lab fee: $190 (includes prosthetic and full blood-rig)

Building Character w/ Eryn Krueger Mekash

3-time Emmy winner Eryn Krueger Mekash, known for her award-winning work on American Horror Story and The Normal Heart, will be teaching one of our exclusive 2-day Hollywood Master Workshops.

In this course students will learn about out-of-kit character makeups that feature the type of injuries Mekash creates on the set of American Horror Story, including Baldiez burns, Pros-Aide transfers, tattoo cover-ups, and chopped hair beards, as well as important industry info on what being a Department Head really means.

Class dates: May 21-22, 9am-4pm

Age Transformations: Younger & Older w/ Ve Neill (SOLD OUT)

3-time Oscar winner Ve Neill, known for her award-winning work on Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, and The Hunger Games series, will be teaching a 2-day course on “Age Transformations.” Students will learn to use out-of-kit techniques to make a male actor appear 10-15 years older and 10-15 years younger. Ve used the very techniques she’ll be teaching in her Oscar-nominated work on Hoffa.

DAY 1: Younger

DAY 2: Older

Students should have previous professional makeup experience and/or taken professional level makeup courses. Students will also be asked to bring their own makeup kits, provide a hairpiece and must provide their own models meeting the following criteria:

    • Male
    • Middle aged (40s-50s)
    • Bald or balding preferred

Class dates: April 16-17, 9am to 4pm
Workshop tuition: $500 (including $100 deposit)
Lab fee: $30

 

Flat Mold Silicone Prosthetics w/ Neill Gorton

Announcing the first instructor for our Hollywood Master Workshops… NEILL GORTON! Known for his award-winning work on Saving Private Ryan, Being Human, and the Doctor Who TV series, Gorton will be teaching a 2-day course on character creations using silicone flat molds.

Students will learn to create silicone appliances designed to give their characters a realistic edge. From wrinkles to scars to signs of physical stress and aging, this course will enhance your ability to transform actors using low cost yet highly effective techniques.

Class dates: January 20-21, 9am-4pm

 


How To Enroll

Step I:

Place your workshop deposit(s) early for first priority. New workshops will be filled on a first come, first served basis by deposit date. This means the earlier you place your deposit the better your chance will be to get into the workshop you want to join. You may place multiple deposits, but each can only be used once.

Step II:

When your desired workshop date is announced, just pay your balance to save your seat. Your prior deposit is credited to your workshop cost!

Step III:

Enjoy a unique opportunity to learn hands-on from one of the biggest names in makeup. We are actively recruiting even more top artists, we will update this page regularly as new artists join up.

 


Costs

Each workshop will cost $500 plus material fees. The $100 deposit will count towards the $500 workshop cost, leaving a remaining balance of $400 plus material fees to paid when a you save a seat.
