Cinema Makeup School and Fangoria Magazine are pleased to announce their co-sponsorship of The Ve Neill  Legends of Makeup Scholarship.

The scholarship is an annual award presented by Cinema Makeup School and Fangoria Magazine celebrating the career and craft of legendary makeup artists. This Scholarship has been introduced to identify those newcomers to makeup who are dedicated and motivated by passion of their craft to spearhead the next vanguard of professional makeup artists.

The 2011 Legends of Makeup Scholarship has been named in honor of Ve Neill. Ve Neill has been nominated for Oscars a total of eight times and won for Beetlejuice, Mrs. Doubtfi re and Ed Wood.  Her other nominated films include Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Hoff, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.  See her artistry in the upcoming films Priest and The Amazing Spiderman. She is also a regular makeup competition judge on SyFy’s Face Off.

The 2011 Legends of Makeup Scholarship will consist of a $10,000 scholarship award to be applied towards any Cinema Makeup School program at their Los Angeles campus, and will be awarded to one person who is looking to further his or her education in the area of makeup artistry. The selected recipient of the 2011 Scholarship will be officially notified by certified mail. The winner will be announced in a tbd issue of Fangoria Magazine and through the online resources of Cinema Makeup School and Fangoria.



To Apply: Scholarship applications may be submitted by anyone over the age of 18 with a U.S. high school diploma or its equivalent. Applications will be reviewed by members of Cinema Makeup School’s panel.  Applications must be received no later than April 30, 2012, and may be received by email to registrar@cinemamakeup.com with the subject heading "Ve Neill Scholarship" or by regular mail to Cinema Makeup School, 3780 Wilshire Blvd., 3rd Floor, Los Angeles, CA  90010.

Each application must include a letter of introduction, all pertinent contact information including email, phone number, street address and social networking details.
Each application must include a statement, limited to no more than 750 words, of why the applicant wishes to receive the Scholarship.  Entrants can also include any images or supporting documentation along with their written essay.

Recipient will be chosen based upon a combination of the following criteria: financial hardship, triumph over adversity and artistic ability.

Applications must follow the above guidelines or will not be considered for entry.


Each applicant must meet the enrollment pre-requisites for Cinema Makeup School. Enrollment requirements: each individual must be over the age of 18 by the time they begin classes, and must have proof of high school completion or its equivalent.  The Scholarship is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. residents and to international students who must meet the requirement of qualification for an M-1 student visa under the regulations of the U.S. Department of States. The winner must be able to provide confirmation of requirements within 30 days of the announcement as the winner, or the Scholarship will go to the runner-up. The Scholarship can be used only at the Los Angeles campus. The recipient must start classes by December 31, 2012.  The award may be used towards tuition and lab fees for any Class or Program at Cinema Makeup School - up to $10,000 USD. There is no cash award or cash value for unused funds. Neither Cinema Makeup School nor Fangoria are responsible for applications not received. The decision of the panel is final. Only the winner will be notified by mail.

All applications and accompanying portfolios, images, documents and other materials will become property of Cinema Makeup School. Applications and accompanying portfolios, images, documents and other matter will not be returned to the applicants. The decision of the judges shall be final. By applying for the Scholarship, each applicant grants Cinema Makeup School and Fangoria the right to use their names and likenesses for publicity purposes relating to the Scholarship.
