Kotal Kahn from Mortal Kombat Cosplay Scholarship Entry

Next Level Of Cosplay: Scholarship Spotlight – Aimee Aranda

As we get closer to announcing the winners of the Next Level of Cosplay, we are featuring our finalist and the amazing work they have done.

First up we have Aimee Aranda from Mexico City. In celebration of her Mexican heritage, Aimee’s entry was a Kotal Kahn cosplay from Mortal Combat.

Kotal Kahn’s appearance resembles Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec God of War and the Sun and takes influence from ancient Mexican civilizations. Each of her garments in the wardrobe was painstakingly created by hand out of a combination of foam, leather, feathers and found materials. There are at least 150 separate pieces to this design and each piece is intricately aged and detailed. The paint design was done with blue water-based paint and airbrushing details into the skin.
Be sure to watch the video to see behind the scenes action of Aimee creating Kotal Kahn’s outfit and the beautiful finished work.
