Diploma Programs

Diploma programs combine individual classes to create a focused program. Successful graduates will receive a Cinema Makeup School diploma.

COMPLETE TRACK

This track includes Cinema Makeup School’s Master Makeup Program, High Fashion Makeup Program, and Creature Concept Design Program plus a selection of advanced classes relevant to a career in beauty and special effects makeup and design in a single package of classes. It grants a Complete Track Diploma. Each start date includes at least some academic breaks.

* Advanced Beauty Theory, Advanced Lab Techniques, and Sketch & Paint Techniques are only offered as day classes. Students attempting an evening track program will need to join a day section for those classes. Advanced Lab classes may be held off-site. Students will be responsible to provide their own transportation.

☨-“Total” includes tuition, lab fees, and materials which break down as follows: $23,675 tuition, $4,075 lab fee, + $2,700 materials fee. Students may also be subject to a $100 registration fee (all non-VA applicants), a $100 I-20 processing fee (all international applicants for an M1 student visa), and potential additional costs for common expendable items like tissues as needed in class, as well as certain optional equipment purchases made through the CMS store.

FX TRACK

This track includes Cinema Makeup School’s Master Makeup Program, High Fashion Makeup Program, and Creature Concept Design Program plus a selection of advanced classes relevant to a career in special effects makeup and design in a single package of classes (Advanced Beauty Theory excluded). It grants a FX Track Diploma. Each start date includes at least some academic breaks.

MASTER MAKEUP PROGRAM

This course is designed from motion picture, television, fashion make-up artistry, character, prosthetics and special make-up effects including a half-head multi piece creature of your own design. Does not include Digital FX Makeup Design, ZBrush, Advanced Lab Techniques, Advanced Beauty Theory or Creature Maquette Sculpture. Does include: Beauty Makeup, Airbrush, Hairstyling, Character, Prosthetics, and Special Make-up Effects. (Material Cost Not Included. HIGH FASHION PHOTOGRAPHIC PROGRAM

This program teaches students the essential skills needed to work in the fashion and beauty industries as well as techniques needed for film, television and theater. Students are taught to create glamour, period and character looks without the use of sculptures, molds or other prosthetics. This class is ideal for those looking to exercise creativity by creating elaborate styles using only makeup and their imaginations.

Creature Concept Design Program is designed with these three classes. You will learn how to create a creature from scratch both digitally and with clay.

CREATURE CONCEPT DESIGN PROGRAM

Digital FX Makeup

This class teaches students how to utilize digital media to create makeup and character designs. In this unique class, students utilize computers, design software and digital pen tablets to develop their character and creature design skills. This class teaches essential skills for any student looking to work in the film and television industry, especially in the field of character development and creation.

Creature Maquette

This class teaches students how to create and sculpt clay maquette to be used in character design for the toy, videogame, film and television industries. During this advanced course, each student creates and sculpts their own character, learning directly from Hollywood’s creature creation masters.

Zbrush Digital Design

In this 40-hour class, students learn to use state-of-the-art 3D modeling software to create realistic digital models that can be used as concept art or in finished projects. These advanced skills are useful in many design-related fields, from motion pictures, to videogames, to toy and product design.

Core Classes

CMS offers individual assessment and counseling to ensure that students select courses that are appropriate for their personal skills and interests.

CHARACTER MAKEUP

This class is comprised of techniques for injury simulation, facial hair application, bald caps and old-age makeup. It covers everything needed to create realistic simulated effects and characters. Students will learn both two-dimensional (using only makeup) and three-dimensional (using gelatin and silicone) character techniques.

PROSTHETIC MAKEUP

This 4-week class is designed to teach students the process of realistic prosthetic makeup application from start to finish, which is considered an essential skill for makeup artists in the field of film and television. Students will have the opportunity to learn in a working lab using the techniques and materials popular in film and television.

SPECIAL MAKEUP EFFECTS

This 4-week class teaches the creation and application of multi-piece prosthetics, blood tubing, lifecasting, teeth and airbrush techniques. All students will have the opportunity to design and build a full face and neck appliance complete with a set of teeth. Students will create multi-piece molds and learn about advanced special effects lab technique, materials and processes. The Special Makeup Effects class is a must for those who want to have a career in creature effects for Film & Television.

ADVANCED BEAUTY THEORY

This special three-week class is designed for experienced beauty artists who want to elevate their crafts. Makeups are assessed in intense detail. Students are given extra freedom to push the boundaries of beauty makeup and create their own editorial concepts.

This is an advanced concept class and has a prerequisite of the student either having taken the High Fashion Program or past professional experience with a portfolio review.

ADVANCED LAB TECHNIQUES

This set of four weeklong advanced lab modules offering practical, hands on instruction in techniques related specifically to work in a modern special effects lab such as full-head silicone lifecasting, clay pouring, epoxy moldmaking and more. All of these techniques are explored under the supervision and guidance of seasoned lab professionals on site at a rotating selection of Hollywood’s top makeup effects labs. Students who take all four modules will produce a finished, photorealistic silicone severed head at the end of the four weeks.

Advanced Lab Techniques is an offsite class where students need to provide their own transportation. The prerequisite for this class is the student either having taken the Special Makeup Effects or past professional experience with a portfolio review.

Makeup Kit & Materials

Students are required to purchase materials prior to the first day of class. The actual cost for material will depend on what materials a student already owns prior to registration. However, listed is the approximate amount a student should expect to pay for the following materials. Due to health and sanitary reasons the cosmetics and tools cannot be returned after received by the student.
